All intructors are Certified Iyengar Yoga instructors, certified by the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States. Kathy Alef · Asana and Pranayama Kathy has been a student of yoga since 1976. She is touched by the profound and sensitive teachings of the Iyengars in Pune, where she makes regular visits. This inspirational teaching enriches and nourishes her own practice and teachings. The joys and new discoveries from her practice are then happily shared with others. Kathy is current chair of the Advanced Studies Faculty, and is Certified at the Intermediate Junior III level.
Victoria Austin · Asana and Pranayama Victoria has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 30 years, and Iyengar yoga for over 20 years. A 1988 graduate of IYISF, she has 20 years of teaching experience, and is Certified at the Intermediate Junior III level. As an ordained Zen priest, Victoria emphasizes how to extend one’s practice into daily life, particularly one’s own behavior, work and community. She studies regularly in India with the Iyengar family.
Nora Burnett · Asana and Pranayama Nora has been teaching Iyengar yoga since 1987 and joined the faculty of the Advanced Studies Teacher Training program in 2001. Her knowledge of the body-mind is enhanced by over 20 years of experience as a body worker and an early life in modern dance. Nora loves to read, walk, and explore the arts.
Mandira has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 30 years. She has studied with Baba Hari Das, Surya Singer, Rama Vernon, and Haridas Choudhuri. She is a philosophy instructor in the Advanced Studies/Teacher Training Program and teaches at Mt. Madonna Center for the Arts and Sciences and Pacific Cultural center.
Janet MacLeod · Asana and Pranayama Janet has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor for over 20 years, and is currently certified at the Intermediate Junior III level. In addition to teaching public classes in San Francisco, Janet is an instructor in the Teacher Training Program here at IYISF and conducts retreats and workshops worldwide. She continues to study in the U.S. as well as in India with the Iyengar family. Janet has been an active community member holding positions on both the local and national boards. She was Convention Chair of the BKS Iyengar Association of the U.S. during the Iyengar Yoga Odessey in 2001. She has relinquished these duties and is now happy to dedicate her life to the practice, study and teaching of yoga.
Elise Browning Miller · Asana and Pranayama Elise holds an MA in Therapeutic Recreation and has been teaching throughout the U.S. and internationally for 30 years. She is certified at the Intermediate Senior III level, and has studied with the Iyengar family in Pune, India many times. Elise is widely known for her work in back care and scoliosis
Joe Naudzunas · Asana and Pranayama Joe began practicing yoga in 1972, and started teaching yoga in 1986. He is certified by Mr. Iyengar, and has studied extensively in Pune, India with B.K.S., Geeta, and Prashant Iyengar. Commited and uncompromising, Joe brings an exacting, yet supportive approach to his teaching -- in public classes, teacher training, and in private work.
Jaki Nett · Asana and Pranayama Jaki has studied yoga for over 25 years, and taught yoga for more than 20 years. She also holds an MA in Humanistic Psychology. Her emphasis of study was using yoga as a means of Biofeedback and self-discovery. Jaki has a strong interest in functional anatomy that she intertwines in her teaching. "I like having the students leave feeling that they worked hard, learned something, and had a good time." .” Jaki has studied extensively with the Iyengar family in India, and is certified at the Intermediate Senior I level.
Jean Revere · Physiology & Anatomy Jean has been studying yoga and its relationship to the human body since 1970. As a doctor of Chiropractic, she maintained a private practice in San Francisco, serving the yoga community in this capacity for 19 years. Jean was also a member of the Institute’s first graduating class, and has previously taught Anatomy classes in the Advanced Studies/Teacher Training program.
Ben Thomas · Asana and Pranayama Ben has been practicing yoga since 1976, and has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years. He has studied with the Iyengars in Pune on numerous occasions. Ben conducts yoga classes at Foothill College and is active in researching the benefits of Iyengar Yoga. He co-wrote the yoga textbook used at Foothill College.
Jito Yumibe · Asana and Pranayama Jito began her yoga studies in 1978 and began teaching in 1984. She attended the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco as well as studying with the Iyengars in India and the U.S. She also studied for sevaral years with Ramanand Patel. Currently she resides in San Jose, teaching and co-directing a studio there.
