New and prospective students need to complete the application. Your application must be approved and the application fee paid before you are accepted into the program. Students should have practiced Iyengar Yoga with a certified Iyengar yoga teacher for a minimum of 2 years on a consistent basis before starting Asana I. In cases where there are no certified Iyengar yoga teachers, an evaluation by IYISF Faculty is necessary. Please contact the office for more details on this evaluation process. There are no prerequisites for entering Anatomy I, Physiology or Philosophy classes; these classes may be audited for no credit without applying to the program. The 500 hour program has been designed so that a student can graduate in two years by taking the courses full time as they are offered sequentially. Year 1 students, e.g., students who are starting the weekly program in the Fall of 2006, 2008, etc. begin their two year course of study as evening students. For two years, all classes will be offered in the evening. In addition to the twelve-week Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters, during the Summer break, we offer workshops, intensives and elective courses that can count toward elective credits. No required courses are offered during the summer. We also offer the 500 hour program on an extended weekend basis. Students attend classes one weekend a month (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) for two years. A new weekend session begins every January. We recently launced a 200 hour Teacher Training Program geared towards those who want to train in the Iyengar method but are not in a position to commit to the 500 hour program. The 200 hour program offers students the same high quality classes and teachers, and can be comleted within one year. Currently this new program is only available for classes taught on a weekly basis. You may print the application and mail it in for placement in the Advanced Studies/Teacher Training Program.
